Bookish characters who are absolute QUEENS and make me look like a dull potato.

HI GUYS!! Ahhhhh I know, it’s been forever since I’ve last posted, and I am SO SORRY for that but I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I just really didn’t get around to writing blog posts or blog hopping for the past couple of weeks. I hope you guys have all been well and I promise I will be around to blog hop sometime soon!! I’VE MISSED TALKING TO YOU.

But I digress. I would love to shower you with all my love right now but you might get bothered sooooo I won’t do that. Yesterday was Victoria Day here in Canada in honor of Queen Victoria’s birthday, and so I got inspired to do a little themed post of BOOKISH QUEENS!! (Because queens are the best.) They’re not all in the literal sense, but these are characters I just love so much that I think are, in their own right, queens. Let’s do this!

Woah, an intro less than 500 words!! Go me.

1. Nina & Inej from Six of Crows duology

OH HI it’s just one of my favourite duos of ever???? The whole Six of Crows squad is my faveeee but these two are the only ones who really qualify for this post right now haha. Inej and Nina are both so badass and they are just such fabulous queens, slaying no matter what they do! (Just the first two bookish queens and already my talents are disappearing *sigh*) Also, they both like food (Nina in particular–you see why I love her??) and that’s automatically evidence of a smart queen in my book.

2. Yael from Wolf by Wolf

Omg. Can someone give this girl a medal?? And a crown? And all the hugs????? Poor precious Yael, her strength astounds me. Here she is riding a motorcycle race and with a goal to kill Hitler (admittedly, I wouldn’t want to be in her place BUT not the point) and then there’s me whose race is to finish exams in time and whose goal is to read more books and get more sleep?? (Failing both, fyi.) GO YAEL, true queen here.

3. Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles

Girl, we have a CYBORG here who’s saving the world like a true queen. I love Cinder so much, such a sweetie and poor soul. She accomplishes so much?? Like HOW.

4. Elli from The Impostor Queen*

You’re welcome for that uncomfortably large close up of her face!! Like people needed more reasons to dislike faces on book covers hahahaha. Even I’m kind of disturbed by this close up jeez she should smile more, smiles are good okay I’ll stop now.

But okay, this series is hardly talked about as much but Elli is actually such a great character! She’s one of the *actual* queens as well, but there’s a whole lot going on there that makes it more complicated BUT nonetheless, she is also a true queen in other ways that I am unable to disclose so take my word for it. (I’m trustworthy I promise!!)

*I just had the greatest revelation ever realizing impostor isn’t spelled with an e???!? I am actually mindblown, you have no idea. Why isn’t with an e though??? It’s pronounced more with the e rather than an o??

5. Lila from Shades of Magic

MY FAVOURITE PIRATE!! (Psh, nah she’s not the only pirate I know…) I didn’t like her very much wayyyy back at the beginning, but all that’s pretty much history because Lila is just too fabulous, honestly. I don’t know how she keeps slaying like this. (Kell and Lila are also the best thing of ever btw) Her sass, her wit, her fighting skills and A+ pirating talents make her one of the best ever and it will take a VERY amazing pirate-queen (she’s not actually but this is a thing now??) to out-queen Lila, let me tell you. *Me: rethinks all of life’s decisions*

6. Kestrel from The Winner’s Curse

Just fyi, Kestrel is one of the most badass characters out there. JUST SAYING. Despite not having any superior fighting skill–in fact she’s kind of horrible at combat (I relate)–Kestrel proves her strength with her intelligence and strategy against her enemies. Definitely one of the main reasons I love the Winner’s Curse series so much. Let’s just say you wouldn’t want to be on her bad side?

8. Shahrzad from The Wrath and the Dawn

Can I first squeal over the fact that Renee Ahdieh’s Flame in the Mist is also now released and I CAN’T WAIT TO READ IT?? Ahem. Okay. Anyway! Shahrzad from TWATD is actually SUCH an amazing character, I love her so much and she’s just such a fab queen as well. SO MUCH LOVE. I honestly don’t know what else to say haha. Slay, girl!

9. Zahra from The Forbidden Wish

GUYS. If you haven’t read this book yet: YOU MUST. Apart from the fact that this is an Aladdin retelling that is quite frankly almost BETTER than the Disney story (I KNOW. Mindblowing already.), this book is such a great diverse, action-packed fantasy with such wonderful characterization. The main character, Zahra, is such a strong, and unique character. I honestly don’t know how else to describe her character, because truly she felt like a breath of fresh air while still being fabulous (as a queen is :P) and I LOVED IT.

10. Juliette from Shatter Me

Brb as I fangirl over the fact that there is going to be more books in this series??!? (But I have to wait SO LONG *cries*) Okay, I’m back!! Because Juliette, my darling girl here deserves some spotlight, I don’t think I’ve mentioned her enough on this blog here lately haha. Her powers are just so cool and I also adoreddddddd her character development over the course of the series. Going from a shy, scared girl to being a strong, fearless QUEEN with fabulous skills. Go, Juliette!!

11. Starr from The Hate U Give

CUE CHEERS for a character featured from a contemporary novel!! Honestly, there should totally be more… either I haven’t read as many of them, or my brain is slow and I just didn’t think of them. (OOPS in the second case but I mean?? I’m a goldfish, how fast are their our brains anyway.) Nonetheless, Starr is legitimately one of the best characters out there ever, and such an absolute queeeeeen omg someone give her a crown PLEASE. If you haven’t read this yet: YOU MUST.

ALRIGHT!! I’m going to stop there because a) I have to go and b) if I continue I WILL NEVER STOP haha.

I had so much fun writing this post!! To everyone who lives in Canada I hope your Victoria Day was great!! I really had planned for this post to go up yesterday but I went out to the tulip festival and I clearly didn’t get to do that oops. But anyway, which of these bookish queens do you agree with? (All of them obviously.) Are there other bookish queens you know of? (Literal or otherwise!) Let me know!! I’ll be around to visit blogs later as well, I can’t guarantee my activity for the rest of the month (what’s left of it, anyway, how did it go so fast??) but I do hope to have a couple of posts up and catch up on the loads of posts I’ve missed haha. Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! Sending you lots of hugs. ❤ ❤

Prepare yourselves for lots of fangirling… | (A few of) My Favourite Bookish OTPs

YES I AM MAKING A POST WITH MY BOOKISH OTPs. (!!!!!) Which basically means this post will be filled with an overload of squealing and happiness—you all know me by now, right?! XD I wasn’t going to do this post seeing how so many people already did it already, but afterwards, I’m like, screw it, I’m doing it! Pff, as if I’d pass up a chance to squeal over my favourite couples in books. (And thanks Becca for urging me to do this! ❤ I had so much fun hehe.)

So, obviously, this post will contain, like, only 0.000001% of all my favourite OTPs because I have too many to count—and as much as I’d love to list them all, I kind of don’t want to be sitting here until I’m 50??? And I doubt any of you do either, so… LOL I’m exaggerating, but you know what I mean.

If you’re new here, WELCOME. And if you aren’t new here, WELCOME. You have now entered fangirl territory. Ahem. *Clears throat*

My Favourite Bookish OTPs

-Ron and Hermione (HP)

Okay, so time to pitch in on the Ron-Hermione-Harry debate, I think! For the record, the way the books played out, I totally ship Ron and Hermione. Like YESS because they just complement eachother’s personalities so well! But, I must admit, if the books had played out differently and Hermione ended up with Harry, I wouldn’t mind that so much. I think it would work either way? Kind of? But Ron and Hermione are canon, so. I SHIP IT. ❤

I would put Ginny and Harry, but… I don’t really ship it. I dunno. It happened too quickly for me to actually root for it. Individually, I like the characters fine, but together, meh.

Okay, so I hope I didn’t shoot down anybody’s opinions! That so wasn’t my opinion. Ahem. So, moving on…

-Will and Tessa (The Infernal Devices)

Will and Tessa

Omg WESSA. *Inserts about a thousand heart eyed emojis* I ship these two SO DAMN MUCH. You don’t even know! Like, seriously, I think their love is just so beautiful. I literally have nothing else to say because seriously, I can’t even. ❤ ❤ They both just have so much in common, and also Will is totally swoon-worthy… LOL. But at the same time, there’s another pairing I (almost) equally love:

-Jem and Tessa

Jem and Tessa

JESSSAAAA. Woo! Yes, I just put both Wessa and Jessa on here. Your point is…?? I’m sorry, but I must. Wessa is absolutely wonderful, but I can’t just neglect the loveliness that is Jessa! Also, as much as Will’s badboy-like character draws me in, Jem’s sweet personality is equally attracting. Him and Tessa are just as great as Tessa and Will! What to do? I LOVE THEM BOTH.

-Clary and Jace (The Mortal Instruments)

Okay so I seem to be on a Cassandra Clare roll here? Let’s just go with it, because why not. Clary and Jace are so amazing!!

-Magnus and Alec

Omggggg MALEC. I heart this sooooo much. That is all. Now let me go and squeal incomprehensibly.

-Isabelle and Simon

Okay, so I wasn’t totally a fan of this at first?? But by the end of The Mortal Instruments series, I was totally on board with Sizzy. Like, at the start I found their personalities just a bit too different for them to actually work, you know? But I found as the story went on they actually make a good pair. YAY.

-Cress and Thorne (Lunar Chronicles)

OMG CRESS AND THORNEEEE. IT’S MEANT TO BE. Seriously. I love this pair so much!! They are adorable and perfect and simply wonderful.

-Kai and Cinder

YESS FOR CINDER AND KAI! One of the two main characters I’ve known the longest, their romance is totally one of my faves. CUTENESS YAYYYY.

-Wolf and Scarlet

Wolf wasn’t my absolute favourite love interest admist all of them, but I will admit him and Scarlet are so perfect together! I love how their characters work so great with eachother. Also, it’s hilarious and so cute to see Wolf become all soft inside when he’s with Scarlet! XD

-Winter and Jacin

Even though we met these two characters last out of all the other main cast of characters, the romance between these two quickly became a favourite of mine. I loved SO MUCH to see the amount of love Jacin had for Winter, to protect her, to be around, to help. He sees more than just a crazy person, and their connection is so heartwarming.

-Safi and Merik (Truthwitch)

Truthwitch Characters

A ship from my more recent reads (well, in comparison to the other books listed), Safi and Merik are a tentative ship that I already love despite have only read about them in one book! I’d be totally heartbroken if they don’t turn out to get together.

-Iseult and Aeduan

Truthwitch Characters

From the same book as above, this one isn’t actually a canon pairing, but I feel like it could be?? I don’t know, maybe I’m wrong but they seem to have had a few interesting encounters and a romance between them would be totally cool. I ship it, haha.

-Percy and Annabeth (Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus)

Omg I love these two SO MUCH. You don’t even know. Maybe it’s because I spent so many books reading about them (10 books, to be exact), but I just feel such a strong connection to them—which makes me love Percabeth even more. ❤ So much so that if you dare hurt this ship I WILL eat you alive… Just kidding! Mostly. You get the point though, right? PERCABETH IS LIFE.

-Piper and Jason, Leo and Calypso, Frank and Hazel (HoO)

Okay, I feel kind of bad putting Percy and Annabeth seperately when I put the rest of the pairings together, but I kind of love Percabeth more? All the other pairings are absolutely fabulous, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t love them to an extent that they must all be seperate. Kind of sad but true? BUT. I do still love all of these pairings!! Bookworm’s honor, I promise I do.

-Rowan and Aelin (Throne of Glass)

Rowaelin

I love this ship!! BUT I must admit I would’ve been okay with a platonic relationship between these two?? Does this mean this ship isn’t as strong as the other ones? I don’t think so. I still love this ship.. but I feel like there’s a ‘but’ added on to that statement. Oh well. I’m still (mostly) cool with this ship, so I’m putting it on here.

-Celaena and Chaol + Dorian

Okay, so despite the fact that I KNOW these two ships will probably never sail again, I can’t help but remember the love I had for both these ships; Celaena and Chaol and Celaena and Dorian. Ahh. I loved these so much, it only makes sense to add them to this list! #nostalgic

-Kaz and Inej (Six of Crows)

Let’s be honest here; how many of you are surprised this is on the list? Psshhh none of you, am I right?! Most of you probably know how much I love this pairing… and if you don’t, well now you know! But seriously. KAZ AND INEJ ARE MY BABIES. I love them so much!! ❤

-Nina and Matthias

OMG MATTHIAS= ❤ I love him just as much as Kaz—which means A HECK OF A LOT. And Ninaaa omg was absolutely fabulous. SO YESSSS totally one of my top ships.

-Jesper and Wylan

Now, I don’t think I talk about these two as often?? These two aren’t actually a thing, and Wylan felt more of a filler character than anything else, but him and Jesper would totally make a great couple.

-Feyre and Tamlin (ACOTAR)

A ship from another of Sarah J. Maas’s books, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Feyre and Tamlin made it onto my list of favourite bookish OTPs since I loved them so much when I read the book. Their romance was quite.. hot, let’s just say.

(Though can I just fangirl about Rhysand for a moment here?! Despite the fact that I ship Feyre and Tamlin, I find Rhysand to be such an interesting character! I’m intrigued to see if he and Feyre begin something…)

-Shahrzad and Khalid (The Wrath and the Dawn)

I’m repeating the same things over and over again, but literally no joke. This is literally an OTP, because IT IS JUST SO PERFECT. They both are simply amazing and I love them so much. I will fight you on this!! Also, I NEED THE SECOND BOOK!!

-Simon and Baz (Carry On)

Simon and Baz

If you haven’t read this book yet, I urge you to read it ASAP—if not for all amazing parts (that I unfortunately can’t all name), then for Simon and Baz because, I tell you, IT IS WORTH IT. I love them both so much!!

-Arin and Kestrel (The Winner’s Trilogy)

Arin and Kestrel

I haven’t squealed about this book (or this pairing) enough!! And omg I really should because it is absolutely amazing!!! PERFECTION, right here, guys. And a whole lot of squealing. From me, of course.

-Raffe and Penryn (Penryn & the End of Days)

I LOVED THIS PAIR SO MUCH!! Omg yessssss. ❤ ❤ I have nothing more to say. Ahem, let me go fangirl in a corner now, thanks!

-Juliette and Warner (Shatter Me)

I’ll admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Warner at first (I had totally valid reasons why though) but as I got to know him more, I totally fell in love. And in turn, I started to root for Juliette and Warner! They are totally one of my OTPs. ❤

A few pairings from contemporary novels…

-Peter and Lara Jean (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before)

To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Ahhhhh apart from the fact that this is one of the CUTEST BOOKS EVER, Peter and Lara Jean will forever hold a place in my fangirling heart! *Heart eyed emoji*

-Eleanor and Park (Eleanor & Park)

Eleanor and Park

Okay, so this book was so heartbreaking??!!!! BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH. And I loved Eleanor and Park so much the more!! ❤

-Wes and Macy (The Truth About Forever)

The Truth About Forever

Okaaaaay just let me go die in a corner… of all the feels, of course. ❤ ❤

-Anna and Etienne (Anna and the French Kiss)

If you’ve seen my latest WWW Wednesday or my review of this book, you know I’ve (finally) read Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins!! And I absolutely fell in love with Anna and Etienne. (!!!!)

-Cath and Levi (Fangirl)

EEEP LET ME SQUEAL HERE!! Ahem. *Iamtotallycalmwhatareyoutalkingabout* But seriously, Cath and Levi (Cevi? Lath?) are so perfect. HEARTS EVERYWHERE!!

-Simon and Blue (Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda)

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate the wonderfulness that is Simon and Blue, yes?? BECAUSE IT IS PERFECTION.

Okayyy so this was not even half of all my ships (and seeing how there’s, like, 20 of them here, welll… I have a lot of ships, okay??! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE (you know you have thousands of them toooo don’t deny itttt) ahem. But this is a good 0.0001% of them, so it’ll do for now. 😉

Alright, so as much as I’d love to continuing talking (well, typing, technically), I don’t want to hog the conversation! So go!! Spread your wings and fangirl with me—I’m sure there’s at least ONE ship on here you can agree on, right? (Or so I hope…) Feel free to tell me what other bookish OTPs are your favourites down below as well, because OTPs are amazing and fabulous.

I hope this post was as amusing it was to read as it was for me to write! I shall now go off in the search of chocolate. And food. All that fangirling made me hungry. LOL.

Happy reading! (And I hope you all enjoy the upcoming weekend!!) Hugs!

Until the Next Meal, Analee

I’m back! (Did you miss me? XD)

Hello my lovely bookish blogging buddies! After a wonderful time spent in Mont Tremblant and Quebec (and even an unplanned trip to Montreal), I finally came back home yesterday and it’s definitely refreshing! I’ve had a great time with my family and visiting places around Quebec, but coming home is always a welcome feeling. 🙂 And I know I have lots of blogs to visit; it may take me a while to check out your posts, but I won’t neglect them forever! XD I know you guys have all posted great things and I really want to check them out soon.

I will be posting about my trip (with pictures!) sometimes soon hopefully, so stay tuned for that! That’s all for now, so happy reading and I shall see (not literally) you all next time! ❤

Stay bookish!

Top 10 Tuesday #2 (April 14) : Top Ten Inspiring Quotes from Books

Hi again! Today’s Top Ten Tuesday (a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish) theme (provided by The Broke and The Bookish) is Top Ten Inspiring Quotes from Books (anything that inspires you, challenges you, makes you think, encourages you, etc.). I’ll try to have quotes from different books (of the YA genre mostly). Let’s get started!

In no particular order:

1. “No one can hate you with more intensity than someone who used to love you.”

HyllaThe Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

This is a very meaningful quote, in my opinion. It’s a very insightful statement that applies in many situations in books, but also real life. I see or read about different circumstances in which the reason a person was doing something was because of a love-now-hate reason.Read More »

Reading Habits Tag

I found this tag on inspiredbythepage (where I coincidentally also found the Reader Problems Tag) which it was originally created by The BookJazz, and I thought it would be fun to do. So here we go!

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I tried, but nope, I don’t. I like having things organized and stuff, but having one specific place for reading just ain’t working for me. I read everywhere (except the bathroom, of course); my window seat in my bedroom, at my desk, on my bed, in my sister’s room, the guest room, the kitchen. I often read while eating too, which is when my eReader comes in handy since I don’t want to bend a book too much or get it dirty. 🙂 Although I’ve mostly perfected those little complications.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Random piece of paper, all the way! I tried a few times to keep a bookmark, but it ended up being misplaced or unused or something along those lines. Mostly I just keep them safely on my shelf. I usually can find a piece of paper lying around somewhere, so when I have to stop reading, and I can’t find my bookmark or whatnot, I’m just like, “Whatever, I’ll use this ripped piece of paper instead.” 😉 I had to use a candy wrapper several times too, since I couldn’t find my bookmark!

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I’ve gotten better at just stopping reading (especially when I was reading in class ;)), but usually I prefer to stop after a chapter, or when a particularly entertaining or action-filled scene kind of cools down. Often though I end up stopping at a few more chapters than planned… I just can’t help it, when I’m especially immersed into a book! “Just this chapter… a few more pages… a few more pages… a few more pages… oh, I can just finish another chapter, then I’ll go…just another chapter… and another…” 😉

New Updates: Weekly Bookish Memes!

Hey everyone! Some new Book Snacks updates are underway!

Apart from Top 10 Tuesdays (a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish), I will be starting Teaser Tuesdays, a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Should be Reading/A Daily Rhythm, as well as WWW Wednesdays, also hosted by MizB. I will also be doing That’s What He Said Thursday, a weekly meme hosted by Chapter Break.  And lastly, I will be starting Friday Finds, (again, hosted by MizB).

What are these memes?

Teaser Tuesdays: Like mentioned above, Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly meme hosted by MizB. All we have to do is (Rules from A Daily Rhythm):

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
Be careful not to include spoilers (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesdays participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

WWW Wednesdays: This is a pretty simple meme, also hosted by MizB, like mentioned above. All we have to do is answer the following questions:

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

That’s What He Said Thursday: Also pretty simple, this meme is hosted by Chapter Break (as mentioned above), and what we have to do is post a favorite line from your book boyfriend to his heroine. These are direct quotes from dialogue in a book, and can be anything he said, not only something romantic.

Friday Finds: In this meme (hosted by MizB), we simply shows the books we’ve discovered and added to our To Be Read list (TBR).

I’m looking forward to doing these memes, and I hope you will enjoy them! Feel free to do your own, just make sure to link back to their hosts. See you next time!

Reader Problems Book Tag

Hey! For some more Book Snacks fun, here’s another tag! I found I really enjoy doing book tags, so here we go! Thanks to Casey @ inspiredbythepages for introducing this tag to me! (Who found it on another blog, and so on.)

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?

There’s not really a specific way on how I choose what to read next. I’d usually go with the books that were recommended to me several times first, or based on the genre. For example, if I’m in a romance mood, I’d head to my choices of YA Romance novels on my TBR. If I feel like wanting some blood and gore, I’d go to YA Fantasy or Paranormal, a thriller, etc.

2. You’re halfway through a book and you’re just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?

Ugh, this always pulls an internal battle. I made a vow to myself to always finish a book if I’ve started it! I feel like if I started it, I should give it a fair chance to win me over. I mean, I can’t just abandon it! Haven’t broken this vow recently yet, however I think I’ve broken it a few times before. But I’m usually committed to any book I start, unless it’s really bad or it doesn’t interest me. 🙂

3. The end of the year is coming and you’re so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

Luckily, this isn’t usually a problem for me. I usually try to catch up if I’m far behind by binge-reading, but I mostly set goals I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be able to keep. 😉

4. The covers of a series you love do. not. match. How do you cope?

I have a panic attack! Naw, just kidding. If it’s a very important series to me, then I would go and buy the matching covers, obviously. Otherwise I’d probably hide them away because I’d throw them across the room because they were unsatisfactory. 🙂 I like my things to be perfect, but I’d rather spend my money on getting new books than replacing covers of old books.

My Favorite First Lines!

Hiya there! Here’s another fun tag!

Thanks goes to Eliza @ Thebookishuniverse for introducing this tag to me, so…let’s get started. (Note: For some, I may do the first two or three lines instead of just one.)

“There was a demon in McDonald’s. And it had a powerful hunger for Big Macs.”

-Jennifer L. Armentrout, White Hot Kiss

Love this line! Made me continue reading, and smile as well!

“Nothing about this room is real.”

-Amie Kaufman, These Broken Stars

There’s only 1 word to describe this first sentence (for me, anyway): captivating.

“I emerge from the simulation with a yell.”

-Veronica Roth, The Transfer: A Divergent Story

I enjoyed Veronica Roth’s Divergent series, and the Four collection of short stories was a nice addition. Needless to say, the one from The Transfer is one of my favorites.
