Teaser Tuesday #17 (August 4): The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler

Hello! It’s time for another Teaser Tuesday, a meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm. All you have to do to join in is:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) (I’m doing one) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The Summer of Chasing Mermaids_bookcoverThis week I have a teaser from the book I literally just started reading today, The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by Sarah Ockler. Even though I’m not that far into it (only around 10-15%), I’m really liking it, especially because of the writing!

“My throat tightened, a feeling like tears rising, but they didn’t spill. They never spilled anymore; I always stopped them. Crying never brought anything back from the dead. It only felt like the ocean trying to drown you from the inside out.”

Have you read this book? What do you think of this teaser? What book are you currently reading? Let me know in the comments below! I might not be able to check it out right away, but I’ll definitely get to it.

That’s it for now, bookworms! Happy Tuesday!

Me Before You_bookcover

This week I have for you a teaser from Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, a touching story I’m really enjoying so far! I’ve actually been kind of neglecting the other book I’m currently reading, now that I think about it! Oh well.

“I hadn’t realized that music could unlock things in you, could transport you to somewhere even the composer hadn’t predicted. It left an imprint in the air around you, as if you carried its remnants with you when you went.”

Yes Please_bookcoverToday I have a teaser from Yes, Please by Amy Poehler (Around 30%):

At thirty I felt like I had about six or seven years of feeling like a real adult before my brain and society started to make me worry about being old. There is the built-in baby stuff, plus the added fascination with the new. But here’s the thing. Getting older is awesome, and not because you don’t care as much about what people think. It’s awesome because you develop secret superpowers.

Yes, Please by Amy Poehler

What do you think of this teaser? Have you read this book? Did you like it? Feel free to let me know in the comments below!

Have a great Tuesday!

Hello fellow bookworms! Have you guessed it yet? ‘Tis time for another Teaser Tuesday! This meme is hosted by A Daily Rhythm. All you have to do to join in is:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) (I’m doing one) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page

Magonia_bookcoverToday I have a teaser for you from one of the books I’m currently reading, Magonia by Maria Dahvana Headley.

“Celestial alphabets. Writing that gets rewritten as the earth moves. If you look at the sky that way, it’s this massive shifting poem, or maybe a letter, first written by one author, and then, when the earth moves, annotated by another. So I stare and stare until, one day, I can read it.”

I’m not sure what I think of this book yet. I don’t know, I’m finding it kind of hard to get into? Although that’s probably not because of the book, more maybe because I’m just not in the mood to read at the moment. Hopefully I like it by the end of the book!

Happy reading!

Teaser Tuesday #13 (July 07): Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover

Hello! Time for another teaser tuesday post! This meme is hosted by A Daily Rhythm.

I’m currently reading a lot of books (5 to be exact) and it would be too much trouble for me to provide a teaser from each, so I’ll just be featuring a teaser from one of the books; Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover.

Ugly Love_bookcover“Do you?” he asks.
“Do I what?”
“Smoke.”
I shake my head. “Nope.”
“Good,” he says. We stare at the candy a little bit longer. He turns to face me, and I glance up at him. “Do you even want any candy, Tate?”
“Nope.”
He laughs. “Then I guess we should get back to the car.”
I agree with him, but neither of us moves.
He reaches down to my hand and touches it so softly it’s as if he’s aware he’s made of lava and I’m not. He grips two of my fingers, not even coming close to holding my entire hand, and give them a soft tug.

What do you think of this teaser? Have you read this book? Let me know in the comments below!

Happy reading!

Teaser Tuesday #12 (June 30): Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

It’s Teaser Tuesday time, (a meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm)! To play along, simply open to the page you’re on in the book you’re currently reading and share a ‘teaser’ from it.
Today I have a teaser from Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier. This book is a re-read for me, and I’m really enjoying it. 🙂

Ruby Red_bookcover“How can she expect us to believe a word of what she says anyway?” asked the man by the mantelpiece. I thought his way of acting as if Mum and I weren’t even in the room was very arrogant. “I have the clearest recollections of the lies Grace told to protect Lucy and Paul at that time. It was her fault they got away from us. If it hadn’t been for her, we might have been able to avert the disaster.

-Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier

That’s all for this post! What are you currently reading? What do you think of this teaser? Did you read this book before? Let me know in the comments below!

Teaser Tuesday #11 (June 23): The Witches of BlackBrook by Tish Thawer

Hi! Teaser Tuesday time! A meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm, all you have to do to play along is:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) (I’m doing one) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I’ve been quite busy reading lately, though I’ve been a bit out of it for some reason. Either way, I’m still really enjoying the books I’m currently reading (We Are Watching, The Witches of BlackBrook, and Banish) and I actually almost finished the last two. But for today I have decided to feature a teaser from The Witches of BlackBrook by Tish Thawer.

The Witches of BlackBrook_bookcoverCaris felt two sets of arms encircle her and could no longer hold back her emotions. Tears streaked her cheeks for the lost potential her previous lives has held. So many lost loved ones, missed opportunities to have children, passing of the ones she tried to start a family with… every single time their destiny had gotten in the way.

Intrigued? Well all I can say that this is quite the book, so if this teaser interests you, maybe you’ll be thinking of adding this to your TBR! 😉 Anyway, I’m really enjoying this book, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this teaser below, so please don’t hesitate to comment.

Have a great Tuesday!

Teaser Tuesday #10 (June 16): Wash Me Away by Wendy Owens

Wash Me AwayQuite late here, but better late than never, right? For today’s Teaser Tuesday (a meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm), I have a teaser from Wash Me Away by Wendy Owens.

“I think I hear someone; we should get back to my bedroom,” I lie. I just don’t want her touching my mother’s dress anymore. A pain twists in my chest when I watch Julia haphazardly toss the dress back into the trunk. She slams it shut, rips the hat off, and we’re down the stairs and in my room in a matter of seconds. Julia is panting, watching me wide-eyed.

I peek out of the door and pretend I’m looking for someone, then quickly close it behind me. I think it was my uncle. That was close,” I lie again.

So that’s it for this week’s Teaser Tuesday! Tell me what you thought of this quote in the comments below!

Teaser Tuesday #9 (June 09): Deception So Deadly by Clara Kensie

Hi! This is going to be a quick teaser tuesday post (a meme hosted by A Daily Rhythm), as I am super tired today and want to go cuddle up with a book or sleep. 🙂 So, I just finished reading Proof of Forever by Lexa Hillyer today, which leaves me at Deception So Deadly by Clara Kensie as my current read! Here’s a teaser from where I’m currently reading:

Deception So Deadly_bookcoverAt home, it was becoming hard to breathe.
Reluctantly accepting that I was not going to vend, my parents never ordered me to break up with Tristan. But my mother’s control over her psychokinesis, already tenuous when she became upset, seemed to become more fragile every day. When I helped her make dinner her hands would start to tremble, then a bowl would vibrate, until eventually the whole kitchen buzzed and hummed and rattled. Sometimes a bottle or glass would shatter on its own. Then my dad would rush in and take her hand, shooing me out with a jerk of this head. I’d scuttle off, unable to meet his pitiful and disappointed gaze.

That’s it for this teaser! What do you think? Like? Dislike? Let me know in the comments below! Have a great Tuesday!

Teaser Tuesday #8 (June 02): A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas & Zaria Fierce by Keira Gillett

Hi! Time for another Teaser Tuesday, a meme hosted by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm! I’m currently reading 2 books: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and Zaria Fierce & the Secret of Gloomswood Forest by Keira Gillett. Here are their teasers!

The air left my chest in a whoosh, and I only had time to half turn before one of them grabbed me by the throat and hurled my to the ground. He pounded my arm so hard against the earth that my bones groaned and my fingers splayed, dropping the remnants of my bow.

-A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

The moon rose fully over the glades. There situated high in the birch trees, silver lights winked on inside the elves’ homes. The buildings and walkways were strung about like cobwebs, gossamer and shimmery. Frosted glass constructed most of the structures and Zaria could vaguely see the shadows of the occupants inside.

A bonfire was setup in the heart of the glade. There Zaria rested peacefully with the boys enjoying the warm glow thrown by the fire. She was happy, relaxed, and overtly stuffed, but she wasn’t complaining per se. Sleep tugged at her consciousness and her eyelids felt heavy, but Zaria fought it off. There was still too much to do to find Christoffer and time was running short.

Teaser Tuesday #7 (May 26): Aftermath by Tom Lewis & Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

Hello! Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm, and all you have to do to join in is post a teaser or two of the page you’re on in your current read.

So, I’m currently reading Aftermath by Tom Lewis and Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. Here are one teaser from both:

“Paige”, she smiled, watching the back and forth between them, as she shook his hand. The kid seemed friendly enough, if not a little full of himself. He looked to be a few years younger than Paige, skinny as a rail, and with a face full of pimples. She was sure she could take him in a fight, but quickly brushed that thoughts aside. If he could help her find Chad, then he was her new best friend.

-Aftermath by Tom Lewis (53%)

They both listened for any sounds in the night. The window was open just a crack, and it was quiet outside. The tom cats had fallen silent, probably licking their wounds. For a moment Maggie thought she could hear the sea breaking in the distance, but perhaps it was only the traffic on the nearby motorway.

What do you think of these teasers? What are your teasers for this week? Let me know in the comments below or link your post! 🙂 Happy Tuesday!

Teaser Tuesday #6 (May 19): World After by Susan Ee & Animal by Nikki Rae

Hi there! It’s Tuesday, so that means for a Teaser Tuesday post! Teaser Tuesday is a meme hosted by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm where we:

  • Grab our current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) one “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • Be careful not to include spoilers (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

“I’m asking the questions here, Raffe. This is serious.”

“Is it a chance for you to provide redemption?” He hopes off the chair and finally turns to look at me.
When he sees me, his shoulders shake in a silent laugh that quickly builds into a full chuckle. Raffe’s laugh is something I would normally enjoy, except that he’s clearly laughing at me.
I look down at my outfit. I admit I might have rushed a bit too much while getting dressed upstairs.
What looked like a muted patterned sweater by the light of one candle turns out to leopard-spotted by the light of several candles. And because it’s so big on me, it folds and hangs everywhere. What I took to be a dark scarf around my waist turns out to be a red tie and my brown socks are actually a mismatched pair of pink and purple.
“Why is it everyone else can look like they’re part of a zombie hunting party, but I still have to worry about fashion?”
He won’t stop snickering. “You look like a leopard-spotted Shar-Pei.”

They were back at the house. The lock from outside opened easily under his strong hand. He did not have the time or strength to crawl back up through the window. Once inside, Evan settles Ava’s small body on the couch and started a fire. He changed her out her dirty, damp clothes and covered her with a blanket. Her brow was creased and she coughed more often. He could hear how wet her lungs were without even using the stethoscope. He wondered if he left her here, without giving her any medicine, would it be better than what Michael had planned as a punishment? Was it better for her to die of a natural cause, from something within her own body?
Should he kill her instead if it came to that? Could he do it again?

-Animal by Nikki Rae (66%)

I’m enjoying both books so far (especially World After–only started it yesterday!) and am looking forward to completing them both.

What do you think of these teasers? Interested in either of these books? Read either of these books? Let me know in the comments below! ❤

Teaser Tuesday #5 (May 12): Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi & Ghost Story by Peter Straub

Hi! Time for another Teaser Tuesday, a meme hosted by Jenn @ A Daily Rhythm! Here’s a teaser from two of the books I’m currently reading:

I watch as the words die in his throat. I’m paralyzed, caught in his gaze as he stands there, his chest heaving so hard and his lips ready to form the words that will surely sentence me to death, all because of my stupid, senseless, idiotic–

“Whatever you do, don’t scream.”

Someone closes a hand over my mouth.

Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi (Shatter Me #2)

Now Sears looked down at the person fate had put closer to him than anyone else in the world, and knew Ricky was thinking that he had weasel-worded his way out of the last question. Ricky’s sagacious little jowls were taut with impatience. “All right,” he said. I told him we weren’t satisfied with what we knew of his uncle’s death. I did not mention Miss Galli.”

“Well, thank God for that,” Ricky said, and walked across the room to join the others. Milly stood up, but Ricky smiled and waved her back to the stool. A born gentleman, Ricky had always been charming to women. An armchair stood not four feet away, but he would not sit until Milly asked him to.

Teaser Tuesday #3 (April 28): Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick & Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

Welcome to another Teaser Tuesday (a meme hosted by MizB @ A Daily Rhythm)! I am currently reading Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick, and Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen, so here’s one teaser from each:

‘The elevator, which was almost as large as my bedroom, clanged lower and lower, at last grinding to a stop. The heavy steel door rose, and Scott and I walked out onto a loading dock. The ground and walls were dirt, and the only light came from the single light bulb swinging like a pendulum overhead.’

-Nora, Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

‘ “Elinor,” cried Marianne, “is this fair? Is this just? Are my ideas so scanty? But I see
what you mean. I have been too much at my ease, too happy, too frank. I have erred against every common-place notion of decorum; I have been open and sincere where I ought to have been reserved, spiritless, dull, and deceitful–had I talked only of the weather and the roads, and had I spoken only once in ten minutes, this reproach would have been spared.”

“My love,” said her mother, “you must not be offended with Elinor–she was only in jest. I should scold her myself, if she were capable of wishing to check the delight of your conversation with our new friend.” Marianne was softened in a moment. ‘

-Marianne & her mother, Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen

So there we have it! What are your Teaser Tuesdays? Link your post below or comment! I’ll be back later with this week’s Top 10 Tuesday, and maybe even a review! 😉 Have a wonderful Tuesday!
