Top Ten Tuesday #16 (July 28): Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds

Hello bookworms! It’s time for a Top Ten Tuesday, a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. I absolutely love this week’s topic: Ten Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds (love reading, are writers, work at a bookstore, etc.)! Can you make a question any more perfect than this? Let’s get started!

1. Hermione from Harry Potter by J.K. RowlingHarry Potter series

“Books! And cleverness! There are more important things—friendship and bravery.”

This list would not be a list without Miss Hermione Granger! A smart witch and bookworm, Hermione is the perfect description of a book lover!

Fangirl_bookcover2. Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

“So you haven’t read the books.”
“I’m not really a book person.”
“That might be the most idiotic thing you ever said to me.”

Cath is an absolute fangirl about Simon Snow books and writes fanfiction! Definitely a total book nerd. One of the reasons I absolutely loved this book!

3. Katy from Lux series by Jennifer L. ArmentroutLux-Series

“I was always able to lose myself in reading. Books were a necessary escape I always gladly jumped into headfirst.”

I get you, Katy. I get you. Katy loves books—and blogs about them too! Hm, where does that seem familiar?

TID trilogy

4. Tessa & Will from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

“Only the very weak minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry.”

Yes, I know I’m cheating by putting both Will and Tessa, but they are a couple and all, and they both love books! I couldn’t separate the two of them. 😉

5. Celaena and Dorian from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. MaasThrone of Glass_bookcover

“Libraries were full of ideas–perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”

I absolutely loved how while Celaena is a kick-ass assassin, she’s also a total bookworm! And Dorian also loves books—he has a whole library of them with books that he offers to Celaena! So jealous. This list wouldn’t be complete without them!

Shatter Me series6.  Juliette & Warner from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

“…and one wall is made up of nothing but bookshelves. Loaded with books. Bursting with books. Old books and new books and books with spines falling off.”

Juliette’s inner bookworm isn’t that obvious, but she did turn to words and writing in Shatter Me, in the asylum. They were her only escape. And Warner, loves to read! The litte teaser above is Juliette describing his office, seems like Warner is a bookworm! What do you make of that? 😉

7. Violet from All the Bright Places by Jennifer NivenAll the Bright Places_bookcover

“Writing is what I did best. Better than being a daughter or girlfriend or sister. Writing was me.”

Violet is a blogger passionate about writing! She definitely needs to be on the list!

Inkheart_bookcover8. Maggie from Inkheart by Cornelia Funke

“Books have to be heavy because the whole world’s inside them.”

Both Maggie and her father love books! Her father can bring characters out of a book by reading aloud, can you believe it?! I so want that power!! Can you imagine how perfect life would be if I could bring characters like Hermione and Cath and Simon to life? Or make all my book boyfriends come alive? Wait, on second thought, maybe not all of them… I wouldn’t want any deaths on my hands!

9. Matilda from Matilda by Roald DahlMatilda_bookcover

“So Matilda’s strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone.”

Matilda is one of the first bookworms I’ve come across in books, and she has definitely not been forgotten! Ever since I learned of her, I admired her courage and her unwavering love for books.

The Fault in Our Stars_bookcover10. Hazel & Gus from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

“Sometimes, you read a book and it fills you with this weird evangelical zeal, and you become convinced that the shattered world will never be put back together unless and until all living humans read the book.”

Both Hazel and Gus go total fangirl/fanboy on An Imperial Affliction, even going to Amsterdam to meet the author to know what happens to the characters. If that doesn’t qualify as booklover, I don’t know what does!

Of course, this list wouldn’t be complete without some honourable mentions; Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Elizabeth from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Park from Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell, Alaska from Looking For Alaska by John Green, Klaus from The Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket and Meira from Snow Like Ashes by Sara Raasch and Sydney Sage from the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead.

What do you say? Agree with this list? Disagree? Do we have any in common? Feel free to link your post, I’d love to see your lists! Let me know in the comments below!

    • Thank you! You should definitely check out the books you haven’t read on this list, they’re all great. 🙂 And thanks! I’m glad you liked them, I thought it would be a nice touch. ❤ Ha ha, if you say so! Considering how I often use the word 'bookishness' I really can't object. XD

    • Ha ha what a coincidence. 🙂 They are pretty popular choices, I guess; they are wonderfully relatable book nerds! The others books mentioned on this list you should definitely check out, they’re all great. ❤ Thanks!
