Hello! It’s Thursday and although I usually don’t have a meme on a Thursday, today I decided to give a try to Book Travelling Thursdays, a meme hosted by Catia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. I can’t say whether I will regularly do this, since it all depends on my schedule and how much time I have to blog, but either way, let’s get on to…
How it Works:
1. Choose a book that fits with the theme of the week (which are listed per month on the Book Travelling Thursdays Goodreads group).
2. Include a short explanation as to why you chose the book.
3. Pick out different cover editions of your book: the original cover, the cover from your country, your favourite cover, and your least favourite cover.
Alright then! Let’s get on with it, shall we?
This week’s topic is, in honor of Halloween, of course, A Book That Scared You. To be honest, I can’t really think of any truly scary books that I’ve read off the top of my head! That definitely is a sign I should probably get going on some more creepy reads. Nonetheless I’m going to choose The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkins! It’s not outright a horror read or anything, more of a book with a thriller or paranormal feel than anything else, but it still had me pretty chilled while reading it.
Original Cover + Cover from my Country(?)
This cover isn’t bad! It really portrays the whole dark theme going on with this book. I’m pretty sure this is the cover that’s in my country too (Canada), though I’m not sure since there are a lot of different editions of this book, with the same style but with a different background color. Talk about confusing! Anywho, this looks pretty cool so I’m good with it.
Favourite Cover
That isn’t to say I don’t like the originals, I do, but for some reason this one interests me a bit more. This is the UK cover, if I’m not mistaken, and I just think the background coloring stands out, really makes the book look dreamlike and haunted at the same time, as Cassandra Clare blurbs the book. That being said I still like the other cover!
Least Favourite Covers
I believe the first is the Russian cover? Not 100% sure, but pretty sure. Either way, it looks more like a mermaid fantasy than anything else! Or is that just me? It just doesn’t go with the book, in my opinion.
The second one is the Italian cover, if I’m not mistaken, and I just feel as it the color theme is off. I don’t know, it just doesn’t work for me that much.
And the last one is the German cover, which, although doesn’t look that bad, still rubs the wrong way. Maybe it’s the way the font is set up? I don’t know.
So that’s it for today’s Book Travelling Thursday! Tell me, what are some books that have scared you? (Feel free to give me some recommendations.) Did you read this book? Did you find it as haunting (and awesome) as I did? What covers do you like the most? Dislike? Feel free to tell me whatever in the comments!
Happy Thursday and early Halloween! ❤
I loved this book and I agree with you in your choices 🙂 .I don’t normally read scary books but have you tried The Merciless? That book scared the crap out of me

the russians always have the worst covers, though let me tell you that that one is actually pretty good, considering some russian covers I’ve seen for other books 😀

Haha quite a shame that Russia always has such bad luck with book covers! XD And yes, I suppose I’ve seen worse covers as well, lol.

I love this meme and will probably join this next Thursday since I know I don’t have any books close to scary.

I really need to read this book first of all. Secondly, I am so stupid I just realised that there is a guy holding her from behind :p but I agree with you that the British cover is the best.

Yes, you definitely should! I’d love to know what you think if you get around to reading it some time. 😉 Haha don’t worry; I was the same the first time I saw the cover, lol.
Glad you agree! ❤ Thanks for stopping by, Astra!

I think I’ve seen this meme around the blogosphere before and it looks like so much fun. Lately, I’ve been having trouble with keeping up with tags/awards so I may wait on adding another meme (not that I’m very good at keeping up with them anyway seeing that I hardly participate in T10T and do Exploring My Bookshelves only monthly, but still). Anyway, fantastic post, Analee! Even though I know your busy and you mentioned this may not be a weekly thing for you, I look forward to seeing this meme on Book Snacks on Thursdays you’re able to post! 😀

Yes, it’s been floating around the blogosphere for a while now, I’ve noticed as well. It is lots of fun and relatively simple to do, so I am definitely thinking of keeping it up as much as possible! If you do get the chance to fit in another meme, this one is a good one. 😉 Thanks, Summer! I do hope I’ll get the time to participate in this meme again in the future. ❤
