Hey there! Finale is the conclusion to the Hush Hush saga by Becca Fitzpatrick and since I’ve posted the reviews for the first three books, I’ve been wanting to finish this book and post a review for this one as well. 🙂 My wish has now been granted and I have finished this book, and am now writing a review. So let’s get started!

Note: I would not advise people who hadn’t read the first three books in the series to read this review because of UNINTENTIONAL SPOILERS. Spoilers are not certain, but there may the occasional minor one that some might want to avoid. Anyway…

I really enjoyed Finale. However, I must say, to be honest, I would rate this 4 stars, mainly because of Nora (which I will get to further on in this review). But because of my overall reading experience, and the great storyline, I was able to look past that issue and give an extra .5 star.

Quick Summary

Finale starts off from where Silence ended, where Nora has become the leader of the Nephilim, and has to lead them to war against the fallen angels if she wants to keep herself and her mother alive. She is met of course with heavy opposition from many Nephilim, as the question of where her loyalties lie are still debatable. The original plan was to call off the fight against the fallen angels, (because the higher-up angels, the archangels have put a price on Nora’s head if she doesn’t) but as Nora should know, things don’t always go according to plan. Everything is at stake, and it all goes back to Nora and her decision about the war.

The Plot

The plot was the redeeming point for this book. Like the first three books, Finale had a relatively slow (in comparison with later events) start and built up to an awesome ending! Of course, there were many twists and turns that kept the beginning interesting and me on the tip of my toes. After the cliffhanger in Silence, Finale quite smoothly brought back the plot we knew and enjoyed, with new additions to make it a whole different story and remaining a great ending.

Characters

I liked the characters as well, they were slightly better developed in this book. All the characters I felt were crucial to the story, and they were all interesting in their own way. But then, we have Nora. Like I mentioned above, Nora was one of the reasons I would’ve made this more of a bad review. I just want to say that I didn’t hate her. Quite far from it, actually. The main thing that bugged me about her was that she became more weak than the last book and I couldn’t relate to her all that much for some reason. There was this one part in the book I remember that really hits home for these points.

“Oh, Patch!” I flung my arms around his neck, tears warming my face. “What are we going to do?”

Like, seriously? I was actually tempted to roll my eyes while reading that line. It seems like the minute Patch came back into her life, the stronger, more independent Nora from Silence disappeared, and this line kind of proves it. I’m fine with vulnerable heroines (they’re still supposed to be human!) but I don’t exactly appreciate the type of heroines who break down and become a damsel in distress at one sign of trouble. Don’t get me wrong, Nora made up for this behaviour, but it still bothered me when these kind of damsel-in-distress moments came up. I mean, wasn’t she supposed to become more stronger and independent throughout all this? Not to mention I can’t relate with this kind of actions and behaviour at all.

Rambling about Nora over, I will now say that I considerably liked Vee much more than before. In fact, at some points I liked her even more than Nora! Vee was definitely less shallow in this book, and while she doesn’t come up as much as she did before, what glimpses of her did come up were satisfying. She was strong, and pushed Nora to keep going when Nora was breaking. Cheers for that! I definitely appreciated having a strong female character, even if it was a secondary one.

I also really enjoyed Patch, as usual. He was just as interesting and mysterious as before, and although I can’t completely understand what he sees in Nora other than her looks (I do ship them together though!) he was overall a good character.

Writing Style

There’s really not much new to say about it; it’s just as smooth, natural and mysterious as it was in the last three books. It fit the mood of the story, and flowed nicely.

Overall…

Finale was a very good book. Fans of the Hush Hush Saga should have no reason not to read this book, and although I cannot make any guarantees that you’ll like this book, I can say that I personally enjoyed it and that there’s not major issue I found. The plot was amazing, a great ending to the saga, and while Nora isn’t my favourite character, she’s not all that bad. The writing style also added to make this book more enjoyable.
